QAPCO Proud to Support New Engineering Student Council
21 May 2012

Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) has a long history and passion for supporting the Education Sector in Qatar. From raising awareness about the benefits of recycling and green issues in Schools to sponsoring research and development in Universities – the Petrochemical giant is at the forefront of collaboration between Industry and Academia within Qatar.

The latest venture that QAPCO is proud to support is ‘The Qatar Association of Engineering Student Councils’ (QAESC), a new forum created by students in Qatar that recognizes the need to enhance communication and promote coordination between students studying Engineering in Qatar. Their long term goal is to expand this concept to include other Universities and Colleges within the GCC region.

At the inaugural QAESC conference recently held at Texas A&M, Dr Mabrouk Ouederni, a Research & Development Expert with QAPCO delivered a presentation entitled “Materials Engineering and Environmental Responsibility". The presentation was well received by the students as it highlighted a subject that is currently receiving lots of attention in the media at the moment, especially with QAPCO’s Plastic Awareness Campaign successfully promoting this issue in Qatar.

Mr. Yousuf Abdulla Rebeeh, Chief Operating Officer at QAPCO, was pleased to offer support for this new venture and stated “We thank the students from QAESC for inviting QAPCO to this inaugural conference. It is vital that Industry and Academia work hand in hand to enable the students here to become fully aware of the latest developments in Industry and to interact with professionals from companies that one day may become their employer. This conference is an excellent new initiative and I hope that QAPCO are able to collaborate more with QAESC in any future plans they may have.”

Participating Universities at this conference were Qatar University, Texas A&M – Qatar, College of the North Atlantic and Carnegie Mellon with attendance by the Deans from each University as well as students and faculty members from the respective Universities and Colleges.
